Join Conservation Nebraska and Smart Soil for our 3rd Annual Pumpkin Composting Collection this fall for the City of Hastings!

Don't send your pumpkins to the landfill! Composting gives them a second life and helps reduce organic waste. When pumpkins and other organic materials break down in landfills, they produce methane, a powerful greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change. Composting keeps that organic waste out of landfills and turns it into a valuable resource for healthy soil. The City of Hastings has composted an outstanding 32,177 pounds of pumpkins and gourds in the last two years!

Let’s keep this number rising! Collection bins will be available November 28 & 29 from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at Aqua Court (2200 W 3rd St., Hastings, NE, 68901).

Pumpkins are not allowed to contain extra materials such as lights, candles, and batteries. No leaves, sticks, or other yard waste will be accepted.
