Join Conservation Nebraska and Smart Soil for our 3rd Annual Pumpkin Composting Collection this fall for the City of Hastings!

Did you know that more than 1 billion pumpkins get thrown away and end up in U.S. landfills each year? When organic waste decomposes in the landfill, it starts to release methane - a greenhouse gas that has a warming effect 20 times stronger than carbon dioxide! The City of Hastings has composted an outstanding 32,177 pounds of pumpkins and gourds in the last two years!

Let’s keep this number rising! Collection bins will be available November 1st & 2nd and November 29th & 30th from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at Aqua Court (2200 W 3rd St., Hastings, NE, 6890).

Pumpkins are not allowed to contain extra materials such as lights, candles, and batteries. No leaves, sticks, or other yard waste will be accepted.
