Meet Cian! Cian has been serving with Conservation Nebraska’s AmeriCorps Common Ground Program since September 2023. She loves singing in choir, challenging herself with new projects and ideas, and exploring the great outdoors.
Cian earned a Bachelor of Science in Sociology with a focus on inequality and social justice, along with a Certified Nonprofit Professional Credential. Her goal then was to go into nonprofit work with the desire of improving peoples' quality of life in some way.
After graduating, she found herself drawn to working outdoors - first in the education department at Lauritzen Gardens, and then as the Education Manager at an urban agriculture nonprofit called City Sprouts. In both of these roles - especially with City Sprouts - Cian was largely focused on connecting youth with nature, the local food system, and sustainable lifestyles.
While she does deeply believe in the value of instilling these values into our community's youth, she decided to pursue AmeriCorps service with Conservation Nebraska in order to have a more direct impact on environmental issues facing our communities and our state. She believes in a future where all of us are healthy and safe - from the largest tree to the tiniest insect, and where humans live symbiotically with the natural world.
Cian enthusiastically decided to return in September 2024 for a second AmeriCorps service term! In her second term, she hopes to build on the connections, projects, and ideas from the previous term to achieve a deeper impact on the natural world and within communities across Nebraska.
