Protecting Our Water: Hastings Utilities' Water Conservation Plan

Tuesday, March 17, 2026
1:30 pm2:30 pm

Join Conservation Nebraska for an informative evening exploring how local water management strategies protect one of our most important natural resources. Community members are welcome to join a discussion on Hastings Utilities’ newly developed Water Conservation Plan on March 26th from 6:00–7:30 PM via Zoom.

This presentation will highlight how the plan, created in partnership with the Little Blue Natural Resources District, aims to strengthen long-term water sustainability through strategies such as peak water demand reduction, tiered residential water rates, and conservation practices that help reduce nitrate impacts in local groundwater.

Speakers include Marty Stange, retired Environmental Director for the City of Hastings, who led environmental compliance and groundwater management efforts for decades, and Brandan Lubken, Director of Underground Operations at Hastings Utilities, who oversees water, wastewater, and natural gas operations and brings extensive experience in environmental compliance and utility management.

Attendees will gain insight into how local utilities balance infrastructure, environmental stewardship, community needs, and why water conservation plays a critical role in protecting groundwater quality for future generations.

This event is free and open to the public.

Community members, local leaders, and anyone interested in water sustainability are encouraged to attend.
