Bennington Agrihood Community Visioning Session #1: Living Landscapes: Designing with Nature
If you have been looking for a way to share your voice and be a part of positive change in your local community, this is your opportunity! Join Conservation Nebraska and the Bennington Agrihood Project for our collaborative Natural Environment Track of the broader Bennington Agrihood Participatory Design Series to share your thoughts and ideas for the development of the upcoming Bennington Agrihood.
The Bennington Agrihood is a collaboration between Regenerative Places and Massena Farms to create a bespoke development solution to address the problems which (that) exist at the nexus of urban, suburban and rural life. This project seeks to build a mixed use neighborhood around an organic farm, retaining at least half of the farmland while building a livable neighborhood with regenerative agriculture incorporated into daily life. This participatory design event and subsequent events will inform the final designs to be included in the master plan for the Bennington Agrihood. More information on this project can be found by visiting benningtonagrihood.org.
Event #1 | The first event in the Natural Environment Design Track will focus on concepts found in the "Regulating" category of the Ecosystem Services model, which the design track is based on. The topics covered in this first event will include focus on landscapes, water retention and diversion, horticultural challenges, erosion control, pest management, carbon storage and other challenges in mixed-use land development.
We will begin the session with a presentation from Kristina Engler, a landscape architect and horticulture instructor at Metropolitan Community College, who will draw on her expertise to discuss important information relevant to the session's topic and will serve as a valuable resource for participants during the session. Following the presentation, participants will engage in several interactive activities to generate new ideas and share thoughts, which will then be compiled to guide the development of this innovative new project.
