Home on the Range: The Importance of Rangeland for Milkweed and Monarch Butterfly Conservation

Join Conservation Nebraska for a presentation from Dr. Tim Dickson, who will be discussing the importance of rangeland for milkweed and monarch butterfly conservation.

Almost half of Nebraska is rangeland and about one third of the continental USA is rangeland, yet rangeland has received little attention in regard to monarch butterfly conservation. Monarch caterpillars require milkweed hosts, and it has generally been assumed that large grazers such as cattle and bison will not eat milkweed. However, we have found that large grazers eat milkweeds at approximately the same rate as grasses in Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, and Kansas.

Join us for an insightful presentation and learn more about this important topic!

Joining in-person? We will see you at the Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center, in Room 118. Guest parking will be available in the lot in front of the building (by the clocktower!)
