Understanding Geothermal Energy: with Advanced Engineering Systems and Peru State College

Join Conservation Nebraska in welcoming Vishal Khanna and Kyle Wilkinson from Advanced Engineering Systems, Inc.: an efficiency-minded engineering consulting agency involved in the development of the geothermal energy system on the Peru State College campus.

This presentation will examine geothermal energy systems, featuring Peru State College as a model. We will discuss the structure of the system, the installation process, how the system functions, as well as how geothermal energy systems can play an essential role in a sustainable future.

About the Speakers:
Vishal Khanna, MS, PE, LEED AP | Principal | Advanced Engineering Systems, Inc.
Vishal has over 40 years of experience in the design and commissioning of mechanical systems and has served as Principal-in-Charge for significant higher education clients like the Nebraska State College System and the University of Nebraska.

His excellent technical, management, people, and communication skills have helped him serve clients exceedingly well on literally thousands of projects over the last four decades, ranging in size from under $100,000 to hundreds of millions in construction costs. His expertise is in HVAC, plumbing, and life safety/fire protection design for educational, government, healthcare, military, industrial, residential, and commercial facilities. He has a Master of Science degree from Syracuse University, New York, and is registered to practice engineering in 35 states.
Vishal has worked with clients on projects ranging from initial feasibility studies and concepts through energy studies and life cycle cost analyses to developing full contract documents and assisting in construction administration, startup, and commissioning of building systems. He is passionate about sustainable and environmentally friendly projects, and his vast experience includes around 30 geothermal systems in many states from Wisconsin to Texas; he has been involved in troubleshooting and correcting numerous geothermal systems designed and installed by others.

Kyle Wilkinson, PE, LEED AP | Associate Principal | Advanced Engineering Systems, Inc.
Kyle has over 22 years of experience in the design and commissioning of life safety and mechanical systems. He has worked with clients on projects ranging from energy analysis and life cycle cost analysis to developing full contract documents, as well as providing services during construction. Kyle’s expertise is in HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection design for higher education, K–12 education, government, central physical plants, commercial, research facilities, residential, recreational, and industrial facilities.

Some of Kyle’s experience includes projects with Peru State College, Wayne State College, Metropolitan Community College, University of Nebraska Medical Center, Southeast Community College, University of Nebraska–Lincoln, Union College, University of Nebraska at Kearney, College of Hair Design, Oglala Lakota College, and Mount Marty University.

Kyle places much emphasis on sustainable and environmentally friendly systems. His past experience in construction, along with his academic background, provides practical experience in designing, testing, and analyzing mechanical systems. Combined with strong analytical thinking and attention to detail, his strength lies in solving complex engineering problems.
