Beating the Heat: Public Health in Urban Areas

Wednesday, June 4, 2025
6:00 pm7:00 pm

Join Conservation Nebraska to explore the important connection between urban heat islands (UHIs) and public health. On June 4th from 6:00 to 7:00 PM, a thought-provoking webinar will be led by UNMC’s Dr. Kristina Kintziger, PhD, Claire M. Hubbard Professor of Health & Environment in the UNMC Department of Environmental, Agricultural & Occupational Health of the College of Public Health. She also is a fellow of the Daugherty Water for Food Global Institute of the University of Nebraska.

Urban heat islands, localized areas of elevated temperatures in cities, are a growing concern, and their impacts on the health and well-being of urban populations cannot be ignored. This
webinar will dive into the causes and dynamics of UHIs, shedding light on how these phenomena affect community health. Dr. Kintziger will also discuss the transformative potential of urban trees and green infrastructure in mitigating UHIs and fostering healthier urban climates. Through the lens of science and sustainability, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of
practical strategies to address UHIs and create greener, more livable cities.

Don't miss this opportunity to learn about practical solutions for combatting UHIs and creating greener, more sustainable urban spaces. Whether you're a public health professional, urban planner, environmental enthusiast, or simply curious, this webinar will provide valuable insights to help drive change in your community!
