Nebraska has a variety of wonderful wildlife, and among that wildlife are the state’s “Herps”. The word “Herp” is the colloquial term for reptiles and amphibians, in which Nebraska has a little over 60 various species. These remarkable animals play a very important role in the ecosystem, and are oftentimes misunderstood. Aquatic herps such as turtles and salamanders are especially important and can even act as an early warning system for changes in the environment.
