Restoring the Great Plains Prairie
May 11 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Join Conservation Nebraska for an evening webinar featuring guest speakers Dr. Kay Kottas of Prairie Legacy and Sarah Bailey of The Prairie Plains Resource Institute.
We will be discussing the process of restoring our once vast, thriving prairies, and the remarkable role grasslands play in providing wildlife habitat, drainage for waterways, as well as, perennial-deep root systems that assist in soil quality.
Dr. Kay Kottas is a prairie ecologist, botanist, horticulturist, and former instructor of North American Native Plants, Horticulture and Botany at UNL and Nebraska Wesleyan University. As President of Prairie Legacy Inc., Kay travels the state doing environmental surveys and providing restoration consulting.
Sarah Bailey has been with Prairie Plains Resource Institute for over 10 years where she is a naturalist educator, prairie ecologist and manager of the greenhouse. She works with many aspects of the Prairie Plains restoration program – harvesting seed, helping design high-diversity seed mixes for restoration projects and growing out native plant plugs.
